Who is Graeme Watson?
Graeme has a passion for discipleship and longs to be used by God to bring others into a deeper relationship with Him.
He was born and raised in Northern Ireland. He grew up in a Christian environment and accepted Christ as his Saviour when he was 6 years old. At age 18, Graeme spent his time volunteering at a local missions ministry called Project Evangelism which hosted American church and college groups to participate in short-term evangelism outreaches. For university, Graeme left Northern Ireland to attend Nyack College in Nyack, New York where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Youth Ministry in 2001. After marrying Hope, his college sweetheart, Graeme worked in the electronics department of Sears before becoming the youth pastor at Girard Alliance Church in Girard, PA where he would eventually become an ordained minister of the Christian & Missionary Alliance as well a father of 2 beautiful children.
In 2007 Graeme left his role as youth pastor and in early 2008 he and his family took a Youth With A Mission (YWAM) DTS course in Colorado Springs, CO. The Watson family then relocated to Colorado Springs to join YWAM as full time staff. There Graeme served in many capacities including staffing various YWAM schools (Discipleship Training School, the School of Strategic Missions, and the Teaching & Ministry Development seminar). He and Hope also served as the directors of the Thailand Nations Team in which they were the liaisons between the YWAM base and missionaries serving in Thailand. During their time in YWAM, the Watson family traveled to Thailand 4 times, leading outreach teams twice. Graeme and Hope also added two more children to their family before leaving YWAM in the Summer of 2016.
In July 2016, Graeme and the family moved to Northern Ireland where he would be led to officially start The Climb discipleship retreat.
History of the Climb
In an effort to get his youth group students away from the norm and be challenged to grow in their faith, Graeme took a group of high school students to Northern Ireland for a 2 week discipleship retreat in June 2005. The trip was a success with many students encountering God in ways they hadn’t before. Because of this Graeme repeated the trip 2 years later with the same results. Graeme shared these experiences with a friend from college who was on staff at a church in Columbus, OH. She asked Graeme if he would do a similar trip for her young adults group and in 2012 Graeme led his 3rd retreat to Northern Ireland.
After moving back to Northern Ireland in July 2016, Graeme felt led to start The Climb discipleship retreat full time. He would go on to host a further two teams – a leadership group based in Spain and a church small group from Columbus, OH – in 2017.
Statement of Faith
We believe that the Bible is God’s inspired and authoritative word, revealing that Jesus Christ is God’s son; that people are created in God’s image;
repentance, faith, love and obedience are fitting responses to God’s initiative of grace towards us
that He created us to have eternal life through Jesus Christ; that although all people have sinned and come short of God’s glory, God has made salvation possible through the death on the cross and resurrection of Jesus Christ; that repentance, faith, love and obedience are fitting responses to God’s initiative of grace towards us; that God desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth; and that the Holy Spirit’s power is demonstrated in and through us for the accomplishment of Christ’s last commandment, “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation” (Mark 16:15).
